On February 20th, I had the pleasure of receiving an invitation to the Black History Month Breakfast at the Jean Augustine Centre in Etobicoke. This year was the 20th anniversary of Black History Month in Canada. It was a morning of celebration and inspiration, as we had a talk from the Hon. Jean Augustine herself. The morning’s entertainment also included The Ballet Creole Girls Program. These lovely, young ladies danced solely to the beat of a drummer. It was a beautiful display of culture, musical expression, and art.
It was also announced that there will be a “Girls De-Coded” Digital Boot camp for grades 3 – 12, starting during March Break. This week long program will offer young ladies an opportunity to learn about digital photography, digital storytelling, coding, arts & crafts, etc.
The Jean Augustine Centre is doing amazing things for young women’s empowerment, and I am happy that I am a part of this movement.
